Irrigation NZ published some great common sense drought advice in Canterbury farming (February 2024 page 35).
The advice includes following these steps to help to get the most from your solid set irrigation in dry conditions.
Irrigation Performance Evaluation
Minimise off target application
Identify your soil types
Irrigation Scheduling
Consider deficit irrigation
Prioritise what is to be irrigated
Reduce the irrigated area
Our IMS web platform allows you to easily create and manage irrigation schedules for your solid set irrigation. With the new v2 IMS Gateway more and more farmers are able to have web based control of solid set irrigation.
Drought advice is more than irrigation scheduling but making changes quickly in IMS will help with the overall plan to minimise the effect of drought conditions.
